SMI is seeking a new Associate Vice President, Business Intelligence (AVP, BI), who will be the champion of business intelligence in the organization and responsible for leading the development of business intelligence frameworks and tools, working with all departments to determine and meet reporting and analytics needs. The AVP, BI develops and maintains the Company’s data warehouse and provides ad hoc and standard management reports, for researching and implementing new tools for management information querying and reporting, and for educating business users in the use of software and the interpretation of business data. This position serves as a member of the senior management team and contributes to the development of corporate strategy and future planning.

As the ideal candidate, you will have a bachelor’s degree in information systems, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, complemented by more than seven years’ experience with an emphasis on business intelligence delivery, data modelling and data governance framework. You are a strategic thinker and an excellent communicator who collaborates and encourages the meaningful contribution of others both within and external to SMI. Basic knowledge of the insurance industry and an understanding underwriting profitability would be an asset. You have a credible presence and excellent project management skills with proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment.

SMI is seeking a new Senior Vice President, Operations (SVP), who oversees the design, enhancement, implementation, reporting and oversight of the Company’s underwriting, marketing, claims and business intelligence operations. As a key member of the firm’s leadership team, the SVP has a leadership role in building, implementing and overseeing all of the Company’s systems, processes, workflows, and procedures. The SVP will provide leadership, coaching and direction to senior management in these areas and assist the Company in achieving its strategic objectives.

As the ideal candidate, you will have a bachelor’s degree in business, statistics, actuarial science, or a related field, complemented by more than seven years’ experience with an emphasis on leading and managing high performing teams. You are a strategic thinker and a leader, who must have a strong understanding of the insurance industry. You are able to provide oversight and support for the corporate underwriting strategy, product management and pricing function to provide profitable results. You use innovative approaches to lead early adaptation of change and technology. You possess outstanding supervisory skills in human resources management, with “hands-on” approach to empower employees to be successful. SMI is looking for a Marketing Manager to join our team. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Marketing, and working closely with all departments across the organization, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing SMI’s marketing and communication programs to ensure consistent branding across the organization. Serving as a member of the management team, the successful candidate will provide leadership, coaching and direction to staff and will play an integral role in the development of corporate strategy and future planning.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced social media professional to join an established marketing team and take a leadership role in the development and execution of our social media strategy across multiple channels.

The successful incumbent will be a collaborative team player with an advanced understanding of social media marketing. They will have a mandate of establishing and maintaining a strong social media presence to help increase awareness and grow our share of voice.

The successful candidate will have a university degree or equivalent in Marketing and/or Communications, along with a minimum five years marketing management experience; three or more years supervising high performing teams. The individual must be a self-starter with strong leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and problem solving skills. General knowledge of property and casualty insurance is an asset. The ability to communicate clearly and effectively and to manage multiple tasks and deadlines despite interruption are also essential skills required of the Marketing Manager.

SMI is seeking to fill a permanent, full-time Underwriting Clerk position. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing clerical work of the Underwriting department such as new business, renewals, endorsements as well as cancellations. They will also be responsible for locating and filing documents for incoming mail, providing switchboard relief for the receptionist and printing various documents.

The successful candidate will have completed their grade 12 education and have a minimum six months experience in an office. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, effective keyboarding skills, the ability to perform detailed work accurately as well as the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees.

The annual salary range for this position is $38,224 – $43,137. In addition to salary, a comprehensive benefits package is offered.
